I belong to a couple of Facebook groups related to the use of the Divi theme from Elegant Themes.  When I asked for some advice today in one of those groups, I got a whole lot more than I bargained for.  Major criticism!

I had posted in the group about how to increase padding around a logo and I had a couple of great responses.  One member even offered to resize the logo for me to add padding at the top and bottom.  I got my nose out of joint and didn’t handle her offer with grace.

And another member, of whom I had never heard prior to this, called me out for not being appreciative to this woman’s efforts.

And that gave me enough of a jolt to get out of my own head, and see that I had not accepted this woman’s help with the appreciation I should have shown.  So I thanked the woman who called me out, and apologized to the woman who had resized the logo for me.

And then the woman who called me out took it a step farther, and told me she thought my logo was hideous.


Didn’t expect that.

It’s often said that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.  I think my logo is great, but one negative comment threw me.  I am trying not to let it get me down because I know not everyone will like my logo, or cover photo or even my website.

But I should have been prepared for it.  I had stated in the original post that I thought my logo was beautiful, and a complete stranger decided that she would trash me about it. I put it out there to a group of what I thought were fellow designers and Divi theme users, and rather than the usual acceptance and help, I got crapped on.

And an admin for the group had to close comments on my question, which means I’ll never get the help I originally asked for.
